Movie Review ♥

Thanks to Shawsg, I won a pair of tickets along with some awesome goodies to the premiere of Warm Bodies which was held at Shaw Lido! Was looking forward to this day to catch Warm Bodies! And i'm so excited I actually did! D couldn't make it, so I brought dad along for our little daddy-daughter movie date. It was an awesome night indeed! ♥

Synopsis ♥

Warm Bodies is a 2013 American paranormal romantic zombie comedy film based on Isaac Marion's novel of the same name. Directed and written by Jonathan Levine, the film stars Nicholas Hoult and Teresa Palmer.

The film focuses on the development of the relationship between Julie, a young woman, and "R", a zombie, and how their eventual romance develops throughout. The film is noted for displaying human characteristics in zombie characters, and for being told from a zombie's perspective.

SPOILER ALERT

After a zombie apocalypse, R, a zombie, spends his days wandering around an airport which is now filled with hordes of his fellow undead, including his best friend M. R and M achieve rudimentary communication with grunts and moans and "Eh's" and occasional near-words. As a zombie, R constantly craves human flesh, especially brains, as he is able to "feel alive" on the memories of their former owners. The zombies travel in packs, moving very slowly, searching for victims to feed on. While out looking for food, R and a pack of zombies find Julie Grigio and a group of her friends, who were sent out by Julie's father from a heavily-fortified, walled-off human enclave in a nearby city to recover medical supplies from abandoned buildings. R sees Julie and is drawn to her. After being shot in the chest by Julie's boyfriend, Perry, R kills Perry while Julie is distracted and eats his brain, giving R his thoughts and memories making his attraction to Julie become even stronger. He rescues Julie from the rest of the pack and takes her back to an airplane he lives in at the airport to keep her safe. The two bond, causing R to slowly begin to come to life.

Eventually, Julie gets restless and convinces R to take her home. On the way, R reveals to her that he killed Perry, causing her to abandon R and return alone to the human enclave. R begins to make his way back to the airport, heartbroken, but when he sees that M and other zombies are also beginning to show signs of life, he and M lead a group to the human enclave, where R sneaks inside the wall. There he meets Julie's friend Nora and her father Colonel Grigio, leader of the human group. While Nora is grudgingly accepting, Colonel Grigio refuses to believe corpses can change and threatens to kill R. Julie and R escape to a baseball stadium where the rest of R's group is waiting, but find themselves under attack by a horde of skeletal zombies (also known as Bonies) who have irretrievably lost all traces of humanity, and are set on killing and eating anything with a heartbeat, which now includes R and his friends.

Julie and R run from the Bonies, finding themselves trapped. Taking the only escape route, R jumps with Julie into a pool far below, shielding her from the impact but hitting his head, and both of them survive the fall. Thrilled to be alive, they kiss passionately. However, Colonel Grigio shoots R in the shoulder, causing him to bleed and proving that he's been revived. The humans and zombies combine forces and kill the Bonies, and the zombies slowly assimilate into human society. The human population destroys the walls surrounding the human society after the annihilation of the Boney population, creating a life for both humans and reanimated corpses much like the days before the apocalypse. The film ends with R and Julie as a couple.

It's cute. It's sweet. It's lovely & It's pretty hilarious!

That's how I would more or less describe the movie. Though it may seem unbelievable and crazy, like how in the world could a dead person, a walking dead be alive again? Well, after all it's just a movie. In movies, all sorts of things can be made into reality right? 

I wouldn't say it's a very bad movie, neither is it superbly awesome! But it's an enjoyable movie that gives you laughs and fills you with a certain kind of sweetness. In other words, this movie is definitely beyond average. I couldn't help but place my attention on Nicholas Hault. Even as a zombie, he's smoking HOT. What's more when he's human? His eyes are awesomely sexy!

Yeah, that's the best part of the movie, watching Nicholas Hault! But of course, the plot of the movie isn't that bad either. At least there was a flow to it. A start and a proper ending. And yes, i have to mention it again. I DID enjoy the movie! Haha.

After a stressful day at work, this movie could at least keep my mind of stress for that couple of hours. Made me felt more relaxed and it did make me laugh couple of times too!

Well, it's hard to say. You should give it a shot and watch it too.

Who knows? You may actually just love it! (:

The Impossible: An Inspired Tsunami Movie

Thanks to Shaw, I won tickets to catch the preview screening of "The Impossible". I was a little doubtful about this movie. Trailers always make a movie look awesomely interesting and all, but when you're finally watching the whole movie.. It's a different issue all together.

Since the buddy, Zerika couldn't make it and neither could D. I caught the movie with daddy boo and we had our little movie date together.

I have never watched a movie at Shaw Lido ever since it's been renovated. Back before Shaw Lido was renovated, the seats were really bad and there wasn't much leg room space either. I prefer the new Lido now then before. Yet though it's all renovated and new with changes made, this familiar place brings back heaps of memories. From childhood days to my dating period with my first boyfriend.

Since "The Impossible" is an inspired movie from a miracle family who survived the tsunami, let's find out the real story behind the movie.

Real Story behind "The Impossible" ♥

Surrounded by her loving family as she relaxed by the pool on a dream holiday, Maria Belon felt she must be the luckiest woman in the world.

Seconds later, Maria and her terrified husband and three sons were swept away by a ferocious 30ft wall of water that devoured everything in its path.

Maria was horrifically wounded as she was dragged under water by the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami of Boxing Day 2004.

After being submerged for more than three minutes, she finally surfaced and clung on to a tree.

She was petrified, alone and convinced she was dying – but in a miracle that has inspired new film The Impossible, the mum and her family survived.

Moments before paradise was smashed to bits, Maria was on a lounger at the Orchid Resort Hotel in Thailand while her boys, Lucas, 10, Tomas, eight, and Simon, five, were playing nearby with their dad.

The mum watched in horror as husband Quique Alvarez and their two youngest boys were submerged by the roaring mass of dark water that carried with it cars and the chalet the family had been staying in.

“We couldn’t see the wave,” says Maria, who is a doctor.

“We started to hear a very horrible sound. I was looking around thinking maybe this is just in my mind.

"No one recognised the sound. It felt like the Earth was coming apart but everything looked perfect.

“I was facing the sea and saw a huge black wall. I didn’t think it was the sea. I thought it was a black wall coming to get us.

“The two youngest boys were in the swimming pool with my husband.

"Lucas, the eldest, was just in front of me. He had just got out of the pool to fetch the ball we had bought them on Christmas Day.

"I screamed to my husband and to the kids. I thought it was the end for all of us. Lucas was crying out, ‘Mama, Mama’.

"Then they all disappeared under water.

“I went through a lot of very difficult moments under the water – shock, and fear about the boys.

“I remember being pushed against walls. You could feel them trembling and breaking.

“I was not in physical pain but the drowning sensation was like being in a spin dryer.

"The doctors said I was under water for over three minutes because my lungs were full of water.

“When I came to the surface I wrapped myself around a tree and clung on.

"It was so hard to work out what things were because nothing looked normal.”

Maria had deep gashes to her chest and a terrible wound on her right thigh.

But through the agony and confusion she saw something that gladdened her heart.

Maria says: “About 15 metres away I could see a little head, and I thought ‘My goodness, I think it’s Lucas’.

"After that I heard him screaming for me so I went to get him.

“In that moment it felt like the most blessed vision I have ever had. You forget about yourself completely.

"You just think about saving them. I swam across the current and grabbed him. We held on to a tree trunk.

“I was dying, I could feel it happening to me. When I was up the tree, bleeding very heavily with very deep wounds, I could feel the dying process.

"I had really bad internal bleeding as well as the external wounds.”

Traumatised and fearing another huge wave, Maria and Lucas were found in the tree by a Thai man who ensured they got to hospital.

Maria says: “The man wouldn’t allow me to die. He dragged me through the mud for a long time until he was sure I was in good hands.”

But Maria was convinced the rest of the family could not have been so lucky.

She says: “Not for one second did I believe Quique and my other boys would be alive.”

After the tsunami struck, Quique had lost the youngest sons who had been in his arms until the extreme force of the wave sent him crashing into a column on the ground floor of the hotel.

He got washed away but grabbed a tree and clung on for half an hour.

The dad wept, sure the others were drowned.

Then, many agonising minutes later, he heard Tomas’ voice shouting: “Papa! Mama! Lucas! Simon!”

The pair were reunited and perched on the branch of another tree for half an hour.

Then, amazingly, they heard little Simon yelling for help above the roar of rushing water.

Still convinced his wife and Lucas were dead, Quique nevertheless teamed up with another grieving husband and decided to search.

Quique had to make the heartbreaking decision to leave Simon and Tomas in the care of strangers on the roof of the hotel.

After hours traipsing through hospitals full of the wounded, the dying and the bereaved, Quique could hardly believe his eyes when he found his wife and Lucas.

Maria was not out of the woods – even after leaving Thailand she spent 14 months in hospitals in Singapore and their homeland Spain – but the family’s astonishing survival was a rare example of good luck.

The tsunami killed 230,000 people across Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and 11 other countries.

Eight years have passed since the tragedy but The Impossible is a reminder of how the terror wave affected so many.

The film, the first movie dramatisation of the disaster, is tipped for Oscar success. Kent-born Naomi Watts plays Maria and Ewan McGregor is her husband.

Lucas, who is now 18 and studying medicine at University College London, is played by rising British actor Tom Holland, 16.

The stunning recreation of the moment the wave came crashing down on the luxury hotel in Khao Lak is horrific.

It took a year to put together the 10-minute sequence.

During the course of filming Maria and Naomi, 44, became close. And as part of the filming process, the family returned to the hotel which has been rebuilt after being flattened by the wave. Amazingly, Maria says the trip “wasn’t difficult at all”.

She says: “We also went to the hospital. It was good to close the whole process.

"None of us is scared of the sea – it wasn’t the sea’s fault. Post-traumatic stress is difficult to move on from. But you have to move on.”

Tomas, who is also studying in Britain, has certainly moved on – he wants to be a beach life guard.

Maria says they rarely talked about the tsunami when they were back in Spain – and when they did, people didn’t believe they had experienced it.

Their incredible survival was turned into the film after the director, Juan Antonio Bayona, heard her on radio.

“We were terribly lucky in a good and a bad way,” Maria says.

“Carrying this luck for life is difficult.

"We stayed in touch with the man my husband travelled with while he looked for us. But it is hard because the man lost his two babies.

“I learnt what real generosity was through the tsunami. People who didn’t know me spent hours looking for my family.

“I was always afraid of things. The tsunami was an incredible gift. I embrace life. My whole life is extra time.”

Synopsis ♥

The film tells the true story of Maria and Henry Belon, played by Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, and their three children. It starts as the family begins their Christmas vacation in Thailand, with the intention of spending a few days at a tropical paradise resort. Their idyllic vacation is interrupted on the morning of December 26, 2004, when a devastating tsunami destroys the coastal zone. In surviving the disaster, the family is separated and a desperate search to reunite ensues.

This movie is definitely worth watching! Highly recommended and a MUST watch!

Then again, everyone have got a different opinion and view. But I personally love the movie and enjoyed it heaps! It is a very touching & moving story. This movie is definitely enough to make you walk away thinking and realizing how bless we are to be living in such a safe country, like Singapore. Not having to experience such tragedy. The pain & agony of going through such disaster is devastating. Having to see dead bodies, the pain of losing your families and love ones and whatnots.

This movie touched my heart, and YES!! I was a such a crybaby and i cried. I'm only human, and i couldn't control my emotions. haha! Besides being a crybaby while watching the movie, the tsunami scene didn't leave my mind and i kept thinking about it the whole way home while talking about the movie with dad. I doubt i would want to experience a tsunami, it's scary. Even though it's just a movie, it felt so real.

All in all, i really felt for the family who experienced this. Just watching everything that happened was enough to make me cringe. A miracle family indeed! (:
